MakeMKV is intended to convert various types of video input to MKV, one of the most popular, powerful and versatile formats. Moreover, it can also backup discs and generate streaming signals to be used by other applications and devices. In my opinion, the program's graphic user interface is not very intuitive. Moreover, the help documentation is only available online.
The application supports various sources. For instance, you can input data from standard files, including DVD video, Blu-ray, HD-DVD, ISO and MKV files. Unfortunately, it does not allow other file types. Another option is to use your computer's disc reader as source. When you import data from one of these sources, the program can automatically detect the chapters in the file. Then, you can pick only the ones you need to convert. Luckily, it can successfully make backup copies of your discs even when they are protected.
Once you have selected the source, you can proceed to convert. It is a pity that the program does not let you set the resulting MKV files' parameters. As stated above, converting is not the only operation possible, as you can also stream contents using the local IP.
In general, MakeMKV can perform its task properly. It can create high-quality video files without any issue. In my opinion, its interface needs redesigning to make it easier to use.
